There are a total of 24 houses on both of those streets, which makes me conclude that those are the 'doomed' houses. They are on Glenroy St and Kirkland Dr, off of Ordway Dr. Anyway, I'm almost positive I know which houses are planned for demolition, regardless of how close to reality these plans really are. You would think someone there would have to have Ok'd, or be aware of plans for a bridge crossing 581, but maybe its hush hush. Perhaps nothing has been submitted to the planning dept yet. I've now heard the same rumors from another source. Demolition/constuction may begin this Spring. for Continental, has come to a contract agreement with 22 of the 24 small brick homes adjacent to the west of the 10 acres. Hall and Associates, a go-between local real estate co. Costco is coming- a major Costco supplier's Regional VP is iactivly invoved with negotiating for their business. Costco may move to the NW corner of Hershberger and Cove road adjacent to a new electrical plant currently under construction. Other potential tennants include Kohls, Value City, and Costco. The $10M bridge project was finalized months ago, a second option on the 10 acres of farmland has been secured by a delveloper called Continental, and a contract to demolish 24 nearby homes has been finalized. Cheescake factory will move in late '08 at the best retail location in Western Virginia - the SW corner of 581 and Hershberger Road which is now 10 acres of farmland. The bridge across 581 will connect Valley View Mall at the Ashley Furniture store with the Western side of I-581. Welcome to the brave new world of 'rumor blogging'. Newspapers are cutting their staff and will be less and less likely to get 'scoops' as the years go on. So it would surprise me if there wasn't a Roanoke Kohls within a few years.Īnd Aout, any more info about the 581 bride project or Valley View Power Center plans would be greatly appreciated. Especially considering the larger region Roanoke pulls shoppers from, I would guess Roanoke has at least 50% more potential Kohls shoppers than Lynchburg. I fail to see why Kohls would find the smaller Lynchburg MSA to have more children than Roanoke's. ![]() ValueCity, I could do without, but they would probably do very well in Roanoke, especially in the Valley View area. Richmond and Hampton Roads will see one first. Roanoke probably has about 1 million within that radius, so it will be quite some time (decades) before IKEA moves in. They claim to require a population of 2 million within a 60 mile radius. IKEA is extremely unlikely to come to Roanoke in the foreseeable future. I think it would do well in Roanoke in a suburban mall setting. ![]() There are at least a dozen local restaurants that far surpass the quality of Cheesecake factory. It's semi-gourmet quality in oversized portions appeals to the average Joe with a little extra money to burn.
